Sabbath Evenings – with e.e. cummings

A counselor friend shared this poem in a meeting last week.  The poem feels wholehearted, full of wonderment — I hear echoes of Psalm 19.1 “The heavens proclaim the glory of God.  The skies display his craftsmanship.” I hear a “yes” to the the Apostle Paul’s, “For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.”

Notice which words are capitalized!  [Aha!]
This week, enjoy some wholehearted wonderment in the God-Creator who loves you deeply!

i thank You God for most this amazing

i thank You God for most this amazing
day: for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun’s birthday; this is the birth
day of life and of love and wings: and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any-lifted from the no
of all nothing-human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)
